Anindita has trained under award winning danseuse Uma Sharma and studied the art under her for few years. Later she started her advance training under the tutelage of Jaipur and Lucknow school of Kathak maestros Guru Rajendra Gangani and Guru Jai Kishan Maharaj.
Her dance style is a blend of both the schools of Kathak and she believes in the philosophy of incorporating feminine grace into technical recital of the style. She is known for her delicate dance gestures yet powerful technical performances, Anindita is a dancer par excellence. She has always tried to tell stories through her dance about the subjects of contemporary times.
She has also studied Indian ballet and Chau style for a brief period under Guru Shashidharan Nair in Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi. She is a classically trained vocalist too. Anindita was also part of the Kendra’s famous ballet ‘Krishna’.
Anaam has given numerous dance presentations as a soloist in India, Germany and USA. She has performed in leading festivals of dances like, Munster Indische Nacht (Munster, Germany), Kultur Nacht, Theater am Faden (Stuttgart, Germany), BAGC Chicago (USA), Nritya Samarpana Festival Chicago (USA), Logging and Heritage Festival, Wisconsin (USA), Out to Lunch, Marinette (Wi) (USA) ,Rhythms of the world, Appleton (USA), Celebrate Diversity Fox community (USA), Birju Maharaj Paramapara Varshik Kathak Festival (Delhi), Jayadev Dance festival (Odisha), ICCT Memphis Silver Jubilee Event, Winnebago Cultural Event, Wild Rice Concert(USA) to name a few.

Anaam was the featured Kathak performer for New York Kathak Festival 2019 at prestigious Alvin Ailey New York Theater and was also invited as a workshop artist for famous Miles of Music Festival for Kathak.
Also, Anindita is one of the few dancers in USA to collaborate impromptu with Grammy Award winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on his compositions accompanied by Vineet Vyas on Tabla and has been appreciated for her performance by the maestro himself.
She is one of the few Kathak dancers from entire North America to be awarded the coveted Indian Raga Fellowship fall 2018 and was part of the repertoire in San Diego. She leaded two choreographies, the former being based on Fur Elise of Beethoven where she weaved a story around the modern-day issues of virtual vs real life in a blend of Kathak and Bharatnatyam dance styles and latter being the ‘Rhythms of Rajasthan’ showing two folk styles and Jaipur Gharana Kathak from the princely state. One of her project on anti-war, ‘Pakano Boma’ received great reviews from the critics in India.
Anindita acted as a judge in International classical Dance Competitions like Naveen Kalakar 2018 (Odisha), Nava Unmesha Dance Festival 2018(Devdasi National festival), National Dance Competition, Cuttack Mahotsav and so on. She has completed her Bachelors in Kathak Dance from Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh, India and also a certified examiner for the same university.

Open to the Public: Master Class with Sam Aros Mitchell
Tuesday, September 10, 2019
5:30 - 7:30 pm
$20.00 for enrolled Valley Academy students
$40.00 for non-VAA students
This class incorporates investigative scores as well as the many physical training methods that I’ve encountered and trained in as a performer and teacher. These techniques include Yoga, Feldenkrais, Indigenous practices, cognitive re-patterning, Suzuki training, Viewpoints, August Boal’s Games for Actors and Non-Actors, contemporary dance technique, gymnastics, and Min Tanaka's Body Weather/MB training. By centering love, respect, reciprocity, and empathy into this movement practice, we as a community can hope to experience the flow of dynamically moving bodies across the floor; with continuous non-stopping intention, we will push into our personal self-empowerment, agency, and empathy. It will also be really fun! EveryBody is welcome; every age is welcome.
Sam Aros Mitchell is Yaqui (enrolled Texas Band of Yaqui Indians). Sam earned his MFA in Dance Theatre from UC San Diego, and a BFA in Dance from UC Santa Barbara. Sam has performed and taught professionally for over 25 years. He continues to work, teach, and learn, from within his Yaqui community, from within Native American and First Nations communities, and from within contemporary dance communities. He is currently in his fifth year of a performance studies PhD program at UC San Diego. sammitchelldance.com
