​Dance Discovery Days

August 2025 Dance Camps for Young Students
Ages 4–9
Location: Valley Academy for the Arts – Neenah, Wisconsin


​Valley Academy for the Arts is pleased to offer Discovery Days, a series of three-day summer dance programs designed specifically for young students interested in exploring dance in a creative, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Discovery Days introduces participants to foundational movement skills, musicality, storytelling, and creative expression across a range of dance styles.

Each session of Discovery Days features a unique theme and culminates in a short, informal performance for family and friends. Dancers will engage in movement classes, guided improvisation, creative projects, and hands-on activities such as costume and set design.

Program Highlights
  • Designed for young dancers ages 4–9 with or without prior dance experience

  • Small group sizes for individualized attention

  • Led by experienced faculty in a supportive, creative environment

  • Emphasis on exploration, expression, and performance preparation

  • Informal performance on the final day of each session

Families are welcome to register for one, two, or all three sessions. Each program is designed to stand on its own, while offering a unique and engaging summer experience for students interested in discovering the world of dance.

Tuition:  $45.00 per session or $120.00 for all three (discounts applied after registration)

Session One:  Swan Lake Ballet Camp

Dates: August 5–7, 2025
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

This session introduces young dancers to the classical ballet Swan Lake
. Students will learn beginner ballet technique, explore the narrative and characters of Swan Lake, and participate in creating their own short performance based on the ballet. In addition to dance instruction, students will design simple costumes and scenic elements that reflect the story’s magical themes.

Focus Areas:
  • Introductory ballet technique

  • Story-based movement

  • Character development through dance

  • Costume and set design

  • Performance skills

Session Two: Sleeping Beauty Ballet Camp

Dates: August 12–14, 2025
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

In this ballet-focused session, students will explore the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty
through dance. Using the music and characters of the original ballet as inspiration, dancers will build their foundational technique and contribute to the creation of a short performance. Creative activities include crafting costume elements and visual backdrops.

Focus Areas:
  • Ballet vocabulary and alignment

  • Musical interpretation and storytelling

  • Group choreography

  • Visual arts integration with dance

  • Final day performance

Session Three:  Hip-Hop, Tap, and Jazz Dance Camp

Dates: August 19–21, 2025
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

This session introduces students to the rhythm, energy, and style of three dynamic dance forms: jazz, tap, and hip-hop. Students will explore the unique qualities of each style while working collaboratively to create a fun and lively final performance. The session emphasizes rhythm, coordination, and expressive movement.

Focus Areas:
  • Fundamentals of jazz, tap, and hip-hop

  • Rhythm, timing, and musicality

  • Expressive movement and performance presence

  • Team-building through group choreography

  • Short performance for families
